Book: Chris Marker
140.00 ₪Chris Marker
2025
The black-and-white photographs in this exhibition capture Israel in 1960 through the lens of Chris Marker, a leading figure of the French New Wave. Shot from Eilat to Kibbutz Manara, the images were taken in preparation for his film “Description of a Struggle” (1960) — the first independently funded documentary about Israel, winner of the Golden Bear at the 1961 Berlin Film Festival.
About 120 of more than 1,000 negatives, recently rediscovered in the French Cinematheque archives, are presented here for the first time. The exhibition reveals Marker’s humanistic gaze and reconstructs a forgotten Israel, accompanied by his film and works inspired by it — by David Perlov and Dan Geva.
