Haggai Linik asked 26 writers to choose a black-and-white photograph and write about it. The book before you is an attempt to express something else that is distinctly inherent in the photographic paper and is difficult to decipher in language, even though it is embedded in language. The authors of this book are not concerned with translation or transfer from image to text, but with the drive, that something in the process of writing will move, that some spirit will rise from the thing itself."

The 26 photographs selected range from a stereoscopic photograph from 1917 depicting a scene from World War I to a digital photograph depicting a scene from a parking lot; from a hundred-year-old family photograph to François Truffaut standing on the set of the photograph; from the child Elvis Presley through the Yom Kippur War to Mount Gerizim; from lavender fields through a child dressed as a rooster to a faucet standing in the center of a puddle of water.
