Nathan Alterman (1910-1970) Israeli poet, songwriter, playwright, novelist and translator. One of the greatest pioneers of modern Hebrew poetry. Born in Warsaw and studied at the Hebrew Gymnasium in Kishinev, where he began publishing poems in the gymnasium's newspaper. At the age of 15, he immigrated to Israel with his family, who settled in Tel Aviv, continued his studies at the Herzliya Gymnasium and then went to France to study agronomy. In 1932, he began publishing his poems in the local newspapers and working as a journalist. In 1933, he joined the "Yachdiyo" group of poets who rebelled against the literary establishment. In 1943, he began writing the "Seventh Column" column in the newspaper "Davar", which was published continuously until 1967. The poem "Magash El-Kesef" is one of his most famous pieces. Alterman published hundreds of works, poems, and plays that became an ironclad asset in Israeli culture. For his entire body of work, he won the Israel Prize for Literature in 1968.
